The Jewish community is in mourning following the passing of Randy Eckler, who left us on March 10, 2025. His departure has left a significant impact on the many friends, family members, and community individuals whose lives he enriched.
For the past year, Randy dedicated himself as a devoted volunteer at the Rally for Israel, spending his Sundays organizing and managing the event. His steadfast commitment to Israel, its people, and the Jewish community served as an inspiration to all who had the honor of knowing him. He frequently expressed how the rally helped him reconnect with his Jewish roots and how much he valued the friendships he formed during this time.
Randy’s dedication extended beyond mere words; he demonstrated it through his actions. His weekly presence at Bathurst and Sheppard every Sunday symbolized his passion, resilience, and belief in community unity. To him, the rally represented more than just an event—it was a family, and to those who stood by him, he was like a brother.
Known for his warm heart, sharp sense of humor, and generosity, Randy was a man of profound emotions who openly expressed his love for his family. He often spoke fondly of his son, Kyle, and his cherished granddaughter, Emma, whom he longed to hold close once more. His unwavering love for them was a constant presence in his life.
In recognition of his contributions, Councillor James Pasternak presented Randy with a certificate of appreciation for his “unwavering commitment to the Jewish community and Kol Israel.” Despite facing health challenges, he remained hopeful about joining a mission to Israel in May with Tafsik and Habonim.
Randy’s absence creates a significant void in the lives of those who knew him. His infectious laughter, generous spirit, and famous homemade carrot cake will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of calling him a friend.
He is survived by his loving partner, Arlene Berman, his son, Kyle, and his granddaughter, Emma.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Bathurst Lawn Memorial Park, located at 6033 Bathurst Street in Toronto. Shiva will be observed on Wednesday, March 12, and Thursday, March 13, with additional details to follow.
Kyle Eckler, Randy’s son, shared the heartbreaking news: “It’s with an extremely heavy heart that I announce the passing of my father, Randy Eckler. He was an amazing man, a long-time brother of UA Local 46, my fishing buddy, a respected and loyal friend to our community, and one of my best friends. I invite everyone who knew and loved him to attend his funeral this Wednesday, March 12, at 2:00 PM at Bathurst Lawn Memorial Cemetery. May his memory be eternal. I love you, Dad.
